Thanks for coming to Nani's 5th grade parent meeting last Wednesday. There was a great turnout! Here are some quick notes.
Camp in May:
The entire 5th grade will be going to camp on May 5, 6 and 7, 2008. Parents/guardians are invited to come along as cabin leaders or program assistants. Grant money has been obtained to pay the student fees, but parents must pay to attend camp. (Nani doesn't know the amount yet, check back with her soon.)
F.L.A.S.H. Curriculum (Family Life and Sexual Health):
Curriculum will be taught to 5th grade students during the month of March. If there is a lesson you would not like your child to participate in, let Nani know.
Memory Books:
5th grade families traditionally produce a "memory book" for 5th graders. Contact Isabel D'Ambrosia or Peter Kaczkowski if you would like to participate.
5th Grade Musical:
Heather Kenney, Marisol Berrios Dudley and Sharon Rodgers (among others) are in charge so far. They're deciding what they play/performance will be like very soon, so contact them if you are feeling theatrical.
Landscaping:
5th grade is steward of the native plant garden at the northwest corner of the school property. Doug Hansen is working on a brochure to describe the plants. We need you on this committee if you love gardening!
WASL Testing Dates:
April 21-30, 2008. Parents are asked to organize and bring snacks for the class during the testing period. WASL testing is from one to three hours every day during those weeks. 5th graders take math, science and reading WASL tests.
Graduation:
Assembly and 5th grade family party takes place on the last day of school, June 17, 2008. The 5th grade party is from about 12:30 to 2:30pm. 5th grade has traditionally run a bake/food sale at the JSIS Rummage Sale (in mid- May) to raise money for the graduation party.
